Poker is a card game of betting and raising bets to win the pot. It is generally played with a minimum of two players, and the cards are dealt clockwise around the table. The hand with the best five card combination wins the pot. There are many different variations of the game. However, the basic rules remain the same. Most forms of poker require some form of forced bet at the beginning of a hand, called the ante or blind. The player to the left of the button must call that bet by putting into the pot the same number of chips as the player who made it. The main element of the game that makes it interesting is bluffing. A successful bluff often means that opponents will fold rather than risk taking on the gambler with a good hand. In addition to bluffing, there is also an element of luck that can change the outcome of a hand.<\/p>\n
There are a number of hands that are considered to be strong, including the flush, the straight, and the three of a kind. The other common hand is the pair. A pair usually consists of a high card and a low card, such as jacks and sixes or kings and queens.
